Special Tribute to Irex of Costa Rica On July, 30th, Jack Liberman, President of the Industrial Chamber and Laura Chinchilla, Vice President of the Republic, awarded Mr. Ricardo Amador recognition for his career and the contribution that Irex Costa Rica has made to the Industrial Development of the country and for the years of support and dedication to this prestigious Chamber. The event took place at the Real Intercontinental Hotel. Ivannia Rodríguez, PR person and Ana Amador, Ricardo’s daughter and the current Finance Director of the Group were present. The Foundation “Leer es aprender” (Reading is learning) carried out the usual annual event to reward excellence in different areas. Students with honors all over the country were rewarded that day, as well as two companies nominated by these children as companies of excellence: one of the companies was Irex of Costa Rica. Also, Mr. Ricardo Amador was paid tribute to for being an honorable and excellent businessperson. The event was carried out at Fundatec’s Auditorium, in Zapote. Ivannia Rodriguez, PR person and Ana Amador, Ricardo’s daughter and the current Finance Director of the Group were present. Prize to the Provider of the year 2007 Mr. Ricardo Amador, Founder President and Mr. Guido Peña, Commercial Director, attended Wall Mart’s ceremony for prize awards for the best providers on Friday, July 11th. Irex Distribution Company won the prize to the best Consumption Company, beating big competitors from transnational companies. In order to choose the best provider, three aspects were considered: Irex Distribution Company won on of the nine prizes that the greatest retailer of the world awarded providers in the Consumption Division. Baby puree Agu was launched on July, 10th at the Corobicí Hotel. Among the attendees we had: the Media, clients from all over the country and the main Managements of the companies of the Group. The event consisted of the simulation of a news program directed by Adriana Duran Also, a video of the company was shown and some interviews were conducted to the following interviewees: Guido Peña (Commercial Director), Kathryn Von Saafeld (Nutritionist) and Diego Guzman (Head of Food Brands). Combined with this, we organized an artistic event with fabrics that culminated in the revelation of the baby food. The news program ended when Mr. Ricardo Amador addressed the audience and then dinner was offered while the group Editus entertained the audience. When looking at this new challenge we cannot forget to congratulate “Del Trópico” personnel for the development of the baby food, which, we are sure, will provide new buyers the quality we offer the rest of our customers. IREX of Costa Rica is certified with ISO 9001:2000 Rule After all the audits carried out, the corresponding action plan report was submitted to INTECO. This report was revised and assessed by two different commissions. The first one was integrated by the auditors who were at the plant from April, 1st to April 4th, and the subsequent evaluation was carried out by the INTECO’s Certification Commission, made up of other auditors, including the Certification Director. The approval was announced on May, 12th, 2008, which means that after four years of hard work, WE ARE CERTIFIED. A celebration was held at the Plant on June, 19th. Mr. Ricardo Amador, President of the Irex Group, his wife, Eida León and the president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the canton were present in the celebration. This event was directed by Ivannia Rodríguez, Public Relations person. Meeting with INA’s Director in the canton of La Unión Terramall’s representatives attended the event. Irex, as one of the hosts, presented a corporative video to Mr. Sequeira, showing our priorities. Grupo Irex inaugurates one more company Last Friday January 18th, the Opening Ceremony for Servi Indoor Gas Station was held. This gas station is located diagonally to Montesacro, in Curridabat´s canton. The event was brief but significant; the goal was to acknowledge the effort and pride owed to the fact that there was one more company in the Group. This facility will be open 24 hours and we hope it will benefit several people and several families. As the year goes by, more and better services will be added for the benefit of all customers. The idea is that this new company will reflect the culture and values defining and characterizing the whole group. In this way, we will be doing our bit to contribute to a better society. These were the people who attended the event: Curridabat´s Major, Mr. Edgar Mora, Father Solano, Irex Management and workmates from the Customs Office, the Distribution Office and Signos Publicidad (Signos Advertisement). This is the sixth time that Irex de Costa Rica organizes a Health Fair; this activity started as a token of interest in the good health of all the inhabitants of the canton. As a private company, we have to contribute to assign efforts and resources to carry out this fair which main goal is to give the canton´s inhabitants the possibility of having their health checked at affordable prices, as well as enjoying recreational activities organized for that same day. More details coming soon…. The corresponding auditing to obtain this certification will be carried out the first week of April in Irex de Costa Rica. The documentary pre-auditing was carried out on January 14th and January 15th. Two auditors visited Inteco´s facilities and results were satisfactory. Having an ISO 9001:2000 Certification is very important to the Group since it means that it will be officially acquiring a rule we have always strived to obtain in order to offer our clients more and better products. More details coming soon… October 2nd, President´s visit This is the first time in 50 years that the President of the Republic comes to take a close look at this company´s secret: a dream that started out in a backyard, and that nowadays is a solid company, backed up by experience and consumer’s choice, and that is currently an association of 6 companies. The event started at 10:15 a.m. when the President arrived at the facilities located in the district of Concepción de Tres Ríos, where he was welcomed by Mr. Ricardo Amador, his family, Mr. José Antonio Vargas (Sub manager), the Major and the Congresswoman for the Union´s canton, as well as members of the Presidential House and the Media, among others. Subsequently, there was a short visit to the plant and, after that, everyone present moved to the place where the formal event was going to take place. Several important people have visited our facilities in less than a year: The Economy Vice minister, Mr. Jorge Woodbridge and the President, Mr. Oscar Arias Sánchez.
Grupo Irex nominated by Cadexco Some members of the Jury of the Cámara de Exportadores of Costa Rica (Chamber of Exporters) visited Irex de Costa Rica´s plant located in Concepción de Tres Ríos on November, 13 th, 2007, since we are among the companies nominated for the Premio al Esfuerzo Exportador (Prize to the Exporting Effort). This event will be held at Hotel Herradura on December, 6th. During the visit, there was a review of the company´s presentation, and then, an inspection of the plant was carried out. Finally, there was a Q&A session and important information regarding the group was disclosed. The following people attended the presentation: Federico Amador, Operations Manager, José Antonio Vargas, Group´s Sub Manager, Jorge Ruíz, Financial Manager, Vernie Wilson, Human Resources Manager, Catalina Thames, Production Manager, Freddy Marín, Exports Manager and Ivannia Rodríguez, Public Relations.
The 5´S and TPM oriented II Industrial Fair will take place at the facilities in Concepción from December, 3rd to December, 6th. This event consists of sharing successful experiences of the Irex de Costa Rica Company in adapting the Japanese systems (5S, Kaizen and TPM). Forty projects created by employees from different areas will be presented. The exhibited projects are related to four categories: Occupational Safety, Productivity, Maintenance and Order and Cleanliness. Irex de Costa Rica is already familiar with this topic since it was one of the companies selected by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for the implementation of the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) program. The process was given follow-up by two engineers: Julio Carvajal and Jorge Valverde from the Instituto Tecnológico of Cartago (TEC-Technological Institute) and by Mr. Ken Sakai, member of the Japan Institute Plant Maintenance (JICA).
